AKU® PMMA-XT (extruded acrylic glass) TUBES, crystal clear

Polymethyl methacrylate is brittle, but has high hardness, rigidity and strength.
PMMA is also scratch-resistant and polishable.
It has good thermal shock resistance and UV resistance .
The continuous service temperature of PMMA is between -40 °C and +70 °C.

PMMA XT (polymethyl methacrylate) pipes are plastic pipes made from the transparent polymer polymethyl methacrylate, also known as acrylic glass. They are characterized by their high transparency, translucency and optical clarity.

These PMMA tubes are easy to process and offer good resistance to weathering and chemical substances.

They are used in various areas such as lighting technology, model making, the furniture industry and advertising technology

PMMA-XT tubes represent high-quality transparent tubes made of extruded polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA-XT). These tubes are characterized by their clarity, transparency and high quality.

Features and applications of PMMA-XT pipes:

Properties:

  • High light transmission:
PMMA-XT tubes offer exceptionally high light transmission, similar to glass, which makes them ideal for applications with optical requirements.

  • Transparency:
The tubes are clear and transparent, allowing a clear view of the contents.

  • High surface quality:
PMMA-XT is characterized by a smooth and glossy surface that ensures a clear appearance.

  • Good chemical resistance:
The pipes are resistant to many chemicals, acids and bases.

  • Lightweight:
PMMA-XT tubes are lightweight compared to glass, which makes them easier to handle and process.

Applications:

  • Lighting:
PMMA-XT tubes are often used in the lighting industry for light guides, lampshades and luminaire covers.

  • Advertising technology:
Popular for the production of transparent advertising pillars, displays and billboards.

  • Laboratory applications:
Use in laboratories for transparent tubes, viewing windows and applications with optical measurements.

  • Design and architecture:
PMMA-XT tubes are used in design elements, architectural projects and other aesthetic applications.

  • DIY projects:
Due to their transparency and malleability, PMMA-XT tubes are ideal for creative DIY projects and craft applications.

PMMA-XT tubes offer crystal clear optics and high light transmission, making them a preferred choice in applications where clarity of vision and aesthetic appeal are paramount.

Polymethyl methacrylate extruded

often abbreviated as PMMA XT, is a special form of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) that is produced by extrusion.
PMMA XT is better known under the trade name Plexiglas®.

Properties of PMMA XT:

  • High transparency:
PMMA XT is characterized by exceptional optical clarity and transparency comparable to that of glass. This makes it a popular material in applications where a clear view is required.

  • Lightweight:
PMMA XT is lighter than glass, which results in easier handling and lower weight in applications.

  • Good weather resistance:
PMMA XT is stable against UV radiation and shows good weather resistance. It does not yellow as easily as some other plastics.

  • Chemical resistance:
PMMA XT is resistant to many chemicals, which makes it suitable for applications in various industrial environments.

  • Good workability:
PMMA XT is easy to process and can be formed into various shapes by extrusion. It is also easy to cut, mill and can be thermoformed.

  • Breaking strength:
Although PMMA XT is not as impact-resistant as some other plastics, it still has a certain breaking strength.

Applications of PMMA XT:

PMMA XT is used in a wide range of applications, including:

  • Architecture: windows, roof glazing, roofing and other architectural elements.

  • Advertising and display: Plexiglas® is often used for billboards, illuminated advertising and display applications.

  • Interior fittings: furniture, decorative elements, lighting fixtures and more.

  • Medical technology: Transparent housings, instruments and medical devices.

  • Art and design: Plexiglas® is often used in art and design for various creative projects.

PMMA XT offers a wide range of applications due to its transparency and processability and is often used as a substitute for glass in various areas.
