AKU®-CETAL POM PLATES in POM-C, POM-ELS, POM-ESD-FG, POM-PE10

POM-C is the polyoxymethylene copolymer and is also often referred to as acetal resin .
POM-C has a continuous service temperature of up to 100°C.
The high surface hardness is only surpassed by a few plastics.
Due to its high hardness and smooth surface, POM has good sliding and wear behavior
There is basically no tendency to stress cracks .
The copolymer has high thermal stability and chemical resistance

Our POM-C flat rods/sheets are physiologically safe in accordance with Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 physiologically safe.

  • Pressure-resistant quality
  • Very favorable sliding friction and sliding wear behavior

POM-C sheets are high-quality plastic sheets made from polyoxymethylene copolymer (POM-C). This material, also known as polyacetal, is characterized by its excellent mechanical properties, high strength and hardness as well as good sliding properties. POM-C sheets are formed into uniform sheets using a special manufacturing process that enables a wide range of applications.

The POM-C sheets offer high strength and rigidity, which makes them particularly suitable for applications where mechanical loads occur, such as in mechanical engineering, the automotive industry, model making and electronics. They are resistant to wear and abrasion and retain their mechanical properties even with long-term use.

In addition, POM-C sheets have excellent sliding properties, which makes them ideal for applications with dynamic movements and high loads. This makes them a preferred choice for bearing bushes, guide rails, gears, plain bearings and other components that require low friction and high wear resistance.

The smooth surface of the POM-C sheets enables easy processing, such as cutting, drilling, milling and polishing, which makes it easier to adapt them to different applications. They are available in various thicknesses and sizes to meet the requirements of different projects. From the manufacture of precision parts to the construction of mechanical assemblies, POM-C sheets offer a reliable and durable solution for a wide range of applications.

Polyoxymethylene

POM, also known as polyacetal or acetal, is an engineering thermoplastic with excellent mechanical properties.

Properties of POM:

  • Mechanical strength:
POM is characterized by high mechanical strength and rigidity. This makes it particularly suitable for applications that require good load-bearing capacity and impact resistance.

  • Low friction:
POM has low friction, which makes it suitable for sliding and bearing applications. This results in less wear and tear and a longer service life for the components.

  • Good dimensional stability:
POM retains good dimensional stability even under changing environmental conditions, such as temperature fluctuations or humidity. This is particularly important for precise and dimensionally stable components.

  • Chemical resistance:
POM is resistant to many chemicals, especially organic solvents. This enables use in applications where there is contact with various substances.

  • Good machinability:
POM is easy to machine, which makes it suitable for various manufacturing processes such as injection molding, extrusion and machining by milling or turning.

  • Good electrical insulation:
As a good insulator, POM is used in electrical applications where reliable insulation is required.

Applications of POM:

POM is used in various sectors, including the automotive industry (e.g. for transmission parts, bearings), electrical industry, household appliances (e.g. gear wheels for dishwashers), medical technology (e.g. for surgical instruments) and general mechanical engineering applications.
Its versatility and excellent properties make POM a popular material in plastics technology.

POM-ESD-FG

Polyoxymethylene (POM) with ESD-FG(Electrostatic Discharge-Fiberglass) is a special variant of POM formulated with a glass fiber filler and additional additives to improve electrostatic discharge properties.

Properties of POM-ESD-FG:

  • Electrostatic discharge (ESD):
The addition of ESD fibres makes POM-ESD-FG electrically conductive and helps to minimize electrostatic discharges. This is particularly important in applications where electrostatic charges could cause damage to electronic components.

  • Glass fiber reinforcement:
The glass fiber reinforcement improves the mechanical properties of POM-ESD-FG, including tensile strength, impact strength and stiffness. This makes it suitable for demanding structural applications.

  • Chemical resistance:
As with conventional POM, POM-ESD-FG is resistant to many chemicals and shows good resistance to solvents and fuels.

  • Low water absorption:
POM-ESD-FG, like unreinforced POM, has low water absorption, which results in stable mechanical properties even under damp conditions.

  • Good wear resistance:
The combination of glass fiber reinforcement and POM properties makes POM-ESD-FG wear-resistant. It is therefore used in applications with high friction or abrasion.

Applications of POM-ESD-FG:

POM-ESD-FG is used in various industries for specific applications, including:

  • electronics industry:
Enclosures, components and equipment where electrostatic discharges must be avoided.

  • Automotive industry:
Electrical components, transmission components, bearings and other parts where ESD protection and high strength are required.

  • Mechanical engineering:
Precision components, bearings, guide elements and other parts in applications with high mechanical loads.

  • packaging industry:
Components of packaging machines where electrostatic discharges are undesirable.

POM-ESD-FG combines the good mechanical properties of POM with the ability to minimize electrostatic discharge, making it a suitable choice in applications where this combination is required.
